Facebook hacked Attackers gained Access To over 50 million accounts including private messages
The year 2018 has proven to be the worst year for the company as plethora of controversies have clouded the tech giant regarding safe guarding and using customer data responsibly.
According to NYTIMES the facebook hack was discovered this week allowing attackers to gain access to over 50 million accounts inlcuding their private messages and conversations.
This news could easily kill the credibility of facebook as they dont show any sort of measurements taken in account to safety of user data.Last year a British analytics firm got access to the private information of up to 87 million users to worries that disinformation on Facebook has affected elections and even led to deaths in several countries.
How Facebook Hackers Gained Access To Accounts
The CnnTech explained how attackers hack facebook account using access tokens which are used to keep you logged in for longer periods of time.
The attackers used “view as” which lets user’s to view how their profile will look like to other people visiting it. Exploiting this the facebook hackers gained access tokens to their profile resulting in complete access to users profile
Facebook admitted “This attack exploited the complex interaction of multiple issues in our code”.
To make matters worse anything connected to the specific facebook account was also accessible by the hacker Like Instagram or any other service which was registered using facebook account.
Was Facebook able to Fix Vulnerability issues
As of now the company has issued statement about having knowledge about the facebook hack exploit and currently have disabled the view feature on their website,Issued 50 million new tokens to effected 50 million accounts and considering to issue new tokens to another 40 million accounts.
Further investigation has been launched to look into this breach and making sure to fix this vulnerabilty as soon as they can

- Immediately change your password to All your facebook accounts in order to make sure that nobody can access your account and make sure you have two factor authentication on your account
- register your acccounts with an email on other web services rather than facebook accounts
